Geolix
George’s journey to starting Geolix was shaped by his non-traditional path and desire for a meaningful career. After taking a two-year working holiday in England (he worked as a bartender in Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace, in the first year and managed a small pub outside of Oxford in the second year), George was inspired to pursue a BA in Visual Communication at the Open Window Institute. Despite not having an art background, he excelled through hard work and determination.
George then gained industry experience at a creative agency in Midrand and realised his potential to work independently. After successfully managing freelance projects and building strong client relationships, George secured a significant contract in the motor industry, which enabled him to expand his team and establish a solid foundation for Geolix. Over the years, Geolix grew through word-of-mouth recommendations and strong client partnerships. Today, Geolix is recognised as a Qualifying Small Enterprise (QSE) and a Level 2 Contributor, driven by a passionate team committed to excellence, innovation, and positive impact.

Registered as a (Pty) Ltd.
2015
Landed a contract to design and develop a dealer management system for the motor industry, moved into new offices in Lynnwood.
2017
Moved to office studio in Brooklyn.
2020
Awarded a 4 year contract with National Treasury to develop visual material for the Infrastructure Delivery Management System (IDMS).
2020
Became a Level 2 B-BBEE contributor.
2024
Moved to new offices in Menlyn Maine.

what does geolix
mean?
The name Geolix carries a unique and personal story behind it. George-Felix van der Merwe, the founder, was around 12 years old, he got the idea that if he ever started a business, he could call it Geolix. The name resonated with him, particularly because the “Lix” element imparted a sense of technology and innovation, aligning perfectly with his vision for a tech-focused company.
George liked the idea of a business name that had a deep personal connection and the potential to create a lasting legacy. Geolix therefore stands as a testament to the blend of personal connection and professional ambition, symbolising George’s dedication to innovation and the enduring legacy he hopes to build.
